My DDO launcher is hanging on "Opening Main Form".

If your DDO launcher is hanging on the 'Opening Main Form' stage, please make sure that you have Internet Explorer installed and open, as Internet Explorer is the default web browser for the DDO launcher.

You do not need to make Internet Explorer your default browser, but Internet Explorer must be installed and turned on in order for the DDO launcher to proceed past the 'Connect' stage.

If you are still stuck at 'Opening Main Form':

  1. Open your userpreferences.ini file found in your "My Documents" (XP) or "Documents" (Vista/7) > "Dungeons and Dragons Online" folder
  2. Change GraphicsCore=D3D10 to GraphicsCore=D3D9

Doing so may resolve your concern.

If you are still stuck at ‘Opening Main Form’, it is possible that the last patch did not apply correctly. In order to attempt to install the patch again, try the following:

  1. Clear the Temporary Internet files in Internet Explorer (regardless of which browser you have set as default)
  2. Open your Dungeons and Dragons Online program folder (Default path is C:\Program Files\Turbine\DDO Unlimited)
  3. Open the "Backup" folder inside your DDO program folder
  4. Copy the entire contents of your backup folder (Ctrl + A to highlight all, Ctrl + C to copy)
  5. Go back to the Dungeons and Dragons Online program folder and paste the files you just copied in to the folder. (Ctrl + V to paste)
  6. Click "Yes to all" when you are asked if you would like to overwrite the old files

After this is done, launch the game again and let it download and install the patch.

If you are still stuck at ‘Opening Main Form’ after trying the steps above, please try the following:

Note: You may experience a temporary loss of some services functionality when you follow these steps. When you restore the settings, the functionality will be restored. However, the original error message or behavior may return.

  3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box
  4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All

Try turning off your User Account Control settings in Vista.

If Using Vista

Sometimes on Vista after installing DDO (and in some other instances), the DDO launcher hangs at "Examine Programs." To fix this, please go into the folder you have DDO installed (Typically C:\Program Files\Turbine\Dungeons & Dragons Online – Stormreach) and run this file (if this is happening on XP look for the steps in parenthesis):

“TurbineRegisterGDF.exe”

Right-click and choose “Run as Administrator” to run the file and the DDO Live server client should launch correctly.

(On XP: Double click the TurbineRegisterGDF.exe file)

If it still hangs at examine programs, you might need to manually perform the functions of the TurbineregisterGDF.exe program:

1. Click the blue Windows logo button -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click on Command Prompt

(On XP: Click on "Start" > "Run" and type "cmd" without quotes, hit "Enter" and skip to step 3)

2. Select: Run as Administrator

3. Type the following line in the Command Prompt Window:

CD “C:\Program Files\Turbine\Dungeons & Dragons Online – Stormreach

UPDATE: Or if you reinstalled with the updated DDO:U Mod 9 installations use this:

CD "C:\Program Files\Turbine\DDO Unlimited"

(It will look roughly like this in the Command Prompt window, appearance will vary but the command should look like this:

Code:

C:>CD "C:\Program Files\Turbine\Dungeons & Dragons Online - Stormreach"

OR

Code:

C:>CD "C:\Program Files\Turbine\DDO Unlimited"(If using Windows XP or Vista 64bit use one of these below instead):

CD “C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\Dungeons & Dragons Online – Stormreach”

CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\DDO Unlimited"

4. Hit Enter

5. Type: Regsvr32 PatchWrapper.dll

6. Hit Enter (you should get a success message)

7. Type: Regsvr32 PatchWrapperPS.dll

8. Hit Enter (you should get a success message)

9. Try launching the game again
