How do I launch DDO in Vista or Windows 7?

Once you have the DDO client downloaded and installed on your computer, follow these instructions to launch DDO while in Vista or Windows 7:

1. Click on the Start icon at the bottom left of your screen:

2. Click on 'Games'.

3. Double-click on the Dungeons & Dragons OnlineTM icon:

If you are on Windows Vista/7 and have UAC (User Account Control) enabled, do not run any of the game files or shortcuts with the 'Run as Administrator' option. The game is designed to run as a regular user with UAC enabled, and will self-elevate properly if needed (as long as you have UAC enabled).

Be sure to choose the "Allow" or "Yes" opiton when UAC asks if you want to let the game make changes on the system (the UAC dialog might say "Game Definition File & Patch Wrapper Registration").

For more information on UAC, please visit the Microsoft website HERE for Vista or HERE for Windows 7.

If for any reason the icon does not display or does not launch the game you can create a "desktop" shortcut manually by following the steps below:

  1. Click on the Windows "Start" button and choose "Computer" from the list
  2. In there double-click on your C: drive (may display as "Local Disk C")
  3. Double-click on "Program Files" (note: if you see "Program Files (x86)" double-click on that one instead)
  4. In that folder double-click on the "Turbine" folder and then the "Dungeons & Dragons Online" folder

In that folder look for "TurbineInvoker" (it will be the one listed as an "application" and will have the DDO red "shield" icon) and when you find it right-click it and choose "Send To" and then "Desktop (Create Shortcut)" and that will create a desktop shortcut to launch the game from.

NOTE: If you play using Vista and are experiencing issues with running DDO, please make sure you have at least Vista Service Pack 1 installed.
